The Office of the Environment functions as the tribal government environmental and regulatory program office for the Lower Sioux Indian Community.

The Office of the Environment (OE) functions as the tribal governments environmental and regulatory program office for the Lower Sioux Indian Community. The OE was created in 1992 to increase the environmental regulatory presence on the Lower Sioux reservation and to develop environmental programs for the Community. Since that time the OE has developed a wide variety of environmental  programs and has worked effectively over the years to improve the health and safety of tribal members.

The Activities of the Office of the Environment include Four main program Areas:

  • General Assistance Program (GAP)
  • Brownfields
  • Clean Water Act
  • Lead-Base Paint

Quality Assurance

Office of the Environment quality assurance procedures insure that activities are performed to the highest standards and that all information used to make decisions is of verifiable quality. The OE operates under several individual US EPA approved Quality Assurance Project Plans.
